23 – 30th November is AIDS Awareness Week, and December 1st is World AIDS Day – it’s something RTRFM has been reporting on The Mag, and 2015?s theme is Getting To Zero: Zero Stigma, Zero New Cases, Zero Deaths.
Arguably one of the biggest developments is PrEP — an anti-HIV medication that can help HIV-negative people from becoming infected, although the drug does not help prevent other sexually transmittable diseases.
Author Nic Holas is a person living with HIV whose writing focuses on the contemporary gay experience, and he joined me on The Mag, to talk about what PrEP is and the implications for both HIV positive and negative people into the future.
“PrEP” stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. The word “prophylaxis” means “to prevent or control the spread of an infection or disease.” PrEP is a way for people who don’t have HIV to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. The pill contains two medicines that are also used to treat HIV. If you take PrEP and are exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, these medicines can work to keep the virus from taking hold in your body. Along with other prevention methods like condoms, PrEP can offer good protection against HIV if taken every day.

Finally, as global climate negotiations kick off in Paris the Australian Greens political party have announced their ambitious plans to ensure by 2030 Australia’s energy generation is at least 90% renewable and twice as efficient.
The plan is called RenewAustralia and Greens leader Richard Di Natale says it will help power the economy and create thousands of jobs.
I spoke to Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert to find out more about RenewAustralia.
