What follows is a pair of interviews, conducted by Kylie Sturgess, both of which have featured on RTRM.

When it comes to WA authors, one of the first names that will leap to many of our minds is Tim Winton. He has 25 books published, four Miles Franklin awards, and an Australian Vogel award under his belt, and is now writing memoirs.

Tim Winton has always been associated with the waters of Western Australia. He swims, he surfs, and his love for the sea has fed into many of his novels.

Now he is turning his attention to how Australia’s terra firma has shaped him as a person and as writer. His new book, Island Home: A Landscape Memoir is now out and Tim Winton joined me on RTRFM’s ArtBeat to talk about how it started.

He’s been accused of trying to rewrite history – he’s in the news for a mistake he made in his newly released memoir, Big Blue Sky – and he’s done with politics but still can’t stop speaking out.

But even if you know the music more than you know about the politics, Peter Garrett is undoubtedly a popular figure in Australian culture.

The former lead singer of Midnight Oil, turned Labor politician is currently touring the country to promote Big Blue Sky. I had the chance, thanks to RTRFM, to speak to Peter Garrett.
