What follows are interviews, conducted by Kylie Sturgess, which have featured on RTRM.
#ProtectProtestWA was a rally held on Tuesday 23rd February, against anti-protest laws proposed for Western Australia. The legislation will create a new offence of preventing lawful activity, and will impose heavy sanctions on those convicted under its provisions, with fines of up to $24,000 and jail terms of two years.
These proposed anti-protest laws made their way through legislative council after some debate last week. It’s a law that has drawn ire from as far away as the UN and today there’s more action planned on the local front. Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren has been advocating against the law and spoke about what this could mean for West Australians.
In addition, I spoke to Kim Dravnieks from Rethink The Link, a group that has been protesting the Roe 8 road developments for some time – they are an example of one of the many groups that will be affected by such anti-protest laws. We chatted about why they’re getting involved and why Rethink The Link exists.
